Insecurity: Chaos in Akure as parents withdraw children from school

Residents of Akure were thrown into panic following the circulation of rumours suggesting that bandits had invaded parts of the Ondo State capital. The development created fear among residents, particularly parents, many of whom hurried to schools to take their children home.

Some parents recounted how they received calls and messages about the alleged attack, prompting them to immediately leave their workplaces and head to their children's schools.

They expressed concern over the security situation in the country and called on government to strengthen security architecture and provide adequate support for security agencies.

Meanwhile, some teachers described the reports as a false alarm, assuring parents that schools followed established procedures in handling the situation.

Reacting to the development, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Abayomi, dismissed the reports of a bandits' invasion as false and unfounded. He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu had ordered the deployment of additional security personnel across the state to reassure residents and maintain public confidence.

Authorities have therefore urged members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and rely on official channels for credible security updates.
