World Food Day: Hand in Hand for Better Food, a Better Future

It has often been said that health is wealth, and the food we eat can either be the best form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.

In recognition of this truth, the world comes together every year on October 16th to mark World Food Day, a day set aside to commemorate the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945.

Here in Nigeria, this year’s celebration comes at a time when many families are struggling with the high cost of food.

In separate interviews with PencitiMedia, some women noted that, despite a slight drop in food prices recently, many Nigerians have to settle for whatever they can afford, not necessarily what they want to feed their families.

While commenting on this year’s theme, "Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future," a Dietitian, Festus Bankole, emphasized the need for innovation and stronger collaboration among key stakeholders to improve food production and accessibility for Nigerians.

As the world marks World Food Day, the message remains clear: building a better future begins with what we put on our plates today.
