The Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement, in partnership with the Movement for the Transformation of Nigeria (MoTion), has announced plans to hold a mass protest in Lagos and other parts of the country to express dissatisfaction with what they describe as anti-people government policies. The protest is scheduled to take place on Friday, October 17, 2025.
According to a statement signed by the Lagos State Coordinator of TIB, Adekunle Taofeek, the demonstration aims to demand immediate government action to alleviate rising poverty, inflation, and forced evictions that have worsened under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The groups say Nigerians can no longer bear the current economic pressure.
The organizers stated that the planned protest will be peaceful and nationwide, drawing participation from citizens, civil society organizations, and youth movements across the 36 states. They emphasized that the movement seeks to amplify the voices of ordinary Nigerians who are most affected by the harsh economic realities.
Taofeek noted that the rising cost of living, fuel subsidy removal, and job losses have left millions of Nigerians struggling to survive, while the government continues to introduce policies that appear disconnected from the plight of the masses. He added that the protest is intended to call for a complete review of the government’s economic direction.
The coalition accused authorities of ignoring public outcry over widespread hardship, poor governance, and what they termed “insensitive fiscal policies” that have led to hunger and homelessness. They maintained that the demonstration is a legitimate exercise of citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful assembly.
Meanwhile, security agencies in Lagos are said to be monitoring developments closely, with police sources hinting at possible restrictions to prevent breakdown of law and order. However, organizers insist the protest will hold as planned, describing it as a stand for justice, accountability, and the right to live with dignity.
