Most governments Hospitals in Ondo State could now be described as grave yards as patients have opted for private hospitals for treatment.
At the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital UNIMEDTHC, Akure, most patients are left unattended to.
It would be recalled that Doctors in government hospitals had embarked on an indefinite strike, on the 2nd of February over payment of 50 percent Nov. 2020 salary and non payment of several allowances, and are yet to return to work.
The Doctors comprise Ondo State Association of Residents Doctors of University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTHC)), Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria, Ondo State Government Hospitals Chapter, and the National Association of Government General Medical Dental Practitioners in Ondo State (NAGMDP), representing the body of Doctors working with Ondo State Government.
Speaking on the development, spokesperson, for Ondo State Government Doctors Forum, Dr Omolayo Olubosede, who highlighted some of their demands said the state government is yet to meet up, saying, it was unfortunate that government allowed the strike to drag this long.
She explained that the association had already met with commissioner for health,head of service and even the governor without any concrete achievement.
Reacting, the state Acting Commissioner for health, Dr Jibola Adeyeye said the state government has met some of their demands.
He called on the Doctors to call off its strike for the interest of all.
