The Ondo Students Alliance for Redemption wishes to express in strong terms, her rejection of Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu at the Saturday polls.
Rising from a meeting today 7th of October, 2020 where a consensus was arrived at, the chronicles of excruciating pain wrought on students in Ondo State in the last four years of Akeredolu is undoubtedly the worst ever since the creation of the state in February, 1976.
Never have the state witnessed an unprecedented rejection of the education sector by any administration than the incompetent Akeredolu government has shown.
Under Akeredolu's inglorious reign, secondary school pupils were rejected as the long known tradition of free education/ payment of WAEC fees were abandoned. Ondo, as we all know pride education as an indispensable industry which enabled human capital development of her people.
Under the education hating Akeredolu, Tertiary education became a luxury due to the increase in fees payable by over 300%.
The resultant effect is evident in the drop out of over 45% of undergraduates at the state owned tertiary institutions. These wickedness is enough.
Since the Adekunle Ajasin administration, education in Ondo state has been on a steady improvement both in enrollment, infrastructural development, teacher training and research.
Akeredolu who enjoyed free education pilloried the system and devastated the students.
In the preceding administration, H.E Olusegun Mimiko built schools, regulated fees payable by students to ease burdens on parents, granted scholarships and bursaries to Ondo students, invested in entrepreneurial ventures, boosted the agricultural sector, made life abundant for women and the aged through a people centred healthcare policy.
Unfortunately, the Arakunrin Akeredolu disastrous administration reversed albeit, calamitously, all these monumental strides that needed sustainability.
In the light of the above, the current state of dwindling development in Ondo State requires a rescue and therefore, the entire students have resolved to vote out the vision less government of Arakunrin Akeredolu and install a more purposeful Agboola Ajayi of the Zenith Labour Party on October 10, 2020.
We cannot continue with incompetence and familiocratic government.
The Ondo Students Alliance for Redemption hereby by this resolution gladly wish to direct Ondo students, parents and teachers to vote Agboola Ajayi of the Zenith Labour Party come Saturday, 10th October, 2020.
We wish to warn sternly that those already boasting of rigging the elections would have Ondo students to contend with as every effort will be emplaced to forestall any attempt to rig the elections.
Finally, we wish Akeredolu a safe return to his legal profession as no effort will be spared in rejecting him at the polls.
Our destinies as students will no longer be traded for a governor who believes the best endeavor for the teeming youths is to embrace cannabis farming and distort their mental and physical health.
Signed:
Comrade Adewunmi Adebowale
Coordinator,
Ondo Students Alliance for Redemption.
