It is no longer news that many fuel stations are still selling Premium Motor Spirit PMS popularly called petrol at the rate of 125 naira per litre after the federal government had announced a new pump price.
Nigerians have taken to social media to share their opinion on the new development.
Some faulted the federal government for not exercising its executive power to constitute a task force to ensure that petrol stations adhere to the government directives, others however said the fuel stations are not having the love of consumers at heart.
Kehinde Nafiu ''Hasn't it always been? Nigerian culture is to forment hardship on one another. Nigerians:Who bewitched you?''
Ekene Odugun ''fuel station are still selling petrol 125... fine let the government do something about it . are they above the law..?''
Taiwo Bademosi Thomas '' it is very unfortunate that our government only make announcement or decision but no means of implementation or enforcement...pmb should be more proactive in his decision and be sincere to Nigerians.. ''
The government was also advised to empower law enforcement agencies so that they can enforce the law on wrong doers in the society.
Patrick Adebayo ''If filling stations are still selling fuel at 125, that means they don't want progress of this country. Government too should empower law enforcement agencies to be moving from one stations to other. Any one who didn't abide by the price should be fine and closed for a month.''
Adekanmbi Ibikunle ''buari not in charge this is a true statement.from wole Soyinka many orders from d President is not obey and so many issue like that anyway may God heal our land God bless Nigeria''
Richard J Akeredolu ''I cant stop imagine what we Nigerians do to Nigerians. Federal government has review fuel pump price downward twice yet majority of filling station still sell at #125. But the day its increase, the increment takes effect that very hour! Nigeria we hail thee.''
Akindele Finefine Metulukuro ''Fuel stations selling above government approved price is the least of their ill treatment of Naigerians in comparison to the wicked adjustment of their dispensing machines. The other sad tale is the attitude of numerous supervising agencies that have chosen to turn blind eye while the exploitation persist.''
Mobayodeleoluwa Adebayo ''Fuel stations still sell for 125 per litre because government is not active to it responsibility. If the government is serious about it, TASK FORCE should have been on the prowl visiting it venom on errant stations; that is, if the TASK FORCE themselves won't be compromised.''
Some also urge the federal government to repair the refineries in the country.
Mone Vincent Ebiboh ''Nigeria should please repair and construct refineries to reduce the price of fuel. it is very unfortunate that a country that has oil will take her crude abroad to refine and then pay subsidy to marketers which makes it cost''
Comrd Obasuyi Bunmi ''Fuel stations are not only still selling petrol at #125/ litre, majority of the fuel stations are under-dispensing fuel to the public. The Department for Petroleum Resources,DPR which is the Federal Government agency charged with the responsibility to ensure compliance with Government directives should be alive to their responsibilities. ''.
Bishop Isaac Kekemeke Okunola ''what types of country is this, government will announce fuel pump price, marketer will not abide it and nothing is happening for violating the law. But if the fuel pump price is being increase in mid night, marketer will start selling the price without violating it. PPM need a serious work to do in this country. May God heal our land.''
Meanwhile, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency had, in a circular to marketers dated May 31, 2020, announced a new pump price band of N121.50 to N123.50 per litre for petrol.
It would be recalled that, before the latest price modulation, the pump price band for PMS was N123.5 to N125/litre.
