The move to criminalize electricity theft and vandalization in Nigeria has generated alot of controversies.
Reacting on Facebook, Udemgba Joseph said he supports the federal government saying what will happen to governments age long plan to mount prepaid metered to every house.
In his words ''I really support the criminalisation of electricity theft and vandalization. But what happens to the outright under entering and overcharging of electricity consumers in Nigeria? In one time, during the processing of electricity privatization, the federal government stated that every house must be metered on prepaid plan. But up till now over 80% of houses in Nigeria are unmetered''
It was reported that, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHEDC, has urged the Federal Government and the National Assembly to make legislation criminalizing electricity theft and vandalisation of electricity transformers, poles and other facilities.
PHED noted that if this could be achieved that there would be improvement in the services of the DisCos, regretting that consumers are not willing to pay for energy consumed.
