Nigerians
say, the call for restructuring by President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John
Nwodo and Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo and former governor of Ondo
State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, is long overdue.
Although,
some lauded the former governor of Ondo state for joining others in making the
call, some berated him, saying he once stood against restructuring.
It
was gathered that, they made the call during a video conference organised by
Governance Index and tagged “Coronavirus Pandemic: is it time to re-evaluate
the political structure of the country.”
During
the conference, Nwodo was quoted as saying, in 1999, politicians went into the
election without knowing the parameters that will guide the democratic process,
because the constitution was given to Nigerians by the military government,
which was not elected by the people.
According
to him, the military wrote the present constitution for the country after
abandoning the agreement the nation’s forefathers had with the British before
the independence, which was to operate a regional government.
Below
are some reactions:
Om'OgheneDennis Orido Time for
Restructuring was long overdue before now, and as such is beyond mere
"talk-talk." The whole Southern blocs should unanimously rise up to
the task for positive and gainful results. Good day.

Nafiu Covid-19 Time To Restructure Is Now Afenifere, Ohanaeze Mimiko:
COVID-19 is enough to force some serious reforms in our economy, governance and
politics, leadership is about crisis management, enough of rotating good
governance aroung ethnic groups and abandoned merits.
Akindele
Finefine Metulukuro the quest to restructure this country has
always been a call made only by southerners. This is because the south is at
immense disadvantage within the polity and obviously lacking in the political
will-power as regards the way to make the zone prosper.
Ayomidamola
Lusty Adejoro, this reminds me when Mimiko, Akeredolu and Olusola Oke Alex
were brought to opinion poll by some Ondo State elite same Mimiko who is now
making noise on restructuring couldn't support restructure then. As for me
restructuring in Nigeria is over due if our leaders will be sincere with us.
God bless Nigerians
