E-voting: INEC urged to learn from AAUA

The statement by the electoral umpire in Nigeria has sparked a lot of reactions from Nigerians some opined that it would reduce fraud during election.

Some however said it would make electoral malpractices easier as politicians will collude with officials of the commission to favour them.

A facebook user identified as, Peter Olawale Oridupa urged the electoral umpire to pay a visit to Adekun Ajasin University, Akoko and observe how it conducts its Student Union Government election.

It was reported that, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Mahmud Yakubu, said should the Electoral Act is amended, based on its proposals the 2019 elections would be the last mainly manually conducted election.

He stated this at a retreat on the review of the Electoral Act, in Lagos.

The retreat, which was declared open by Deputy Senate President and Chairman of National Assembly Committte of Constitutional Amendment Ovie Omo-Agege, was witnessed by members of the Senate Committee on INEC, led by Senator Kabiru Gaya, and House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters, led by Dr. Sishati Dukku.

Below are some reactions:

Olalekan Olumide Mascot Aribisala Using of electronic voting is a good start as it will reduce electoral fraud.

Adebanjo Oluwaseyi  electronic voting that INEC is planning to introduce will still be circumvent by political elites colluding with INEC officials to rig and manipulate the votes of electorates.

Prince Kayode Aliu  the introduction of electronic voting is long over due but unfortunately our leaders in the past are too myopic to foresee a situation like this. Good will heal our land

Egbodofo Samuel Temitope the introduction of electronic voting by inec is a very welcome idea, rigging, over voting and manipulation of results as a matter of fact go away in our elections in Nigeria.

Abolokoh Daniel Poweide electronic voting is a welcomed development.

Om'OgheneDennis Orido Electronic Voting would go a long way to reducing electoral malpractices to a reasonable extent.

Comrd Obasuyi Bunmi Abiodun On INEC plan to start electronic voting in 2021. I want to say Nigeria is not yet riped for such voting system looking at the high rate of illiteracy in the country and questionable integrity of some of electoral umpires.INEC can not by law start electronic voting next year, because there is no constitutional provision for it in 1999 constitution as amended.

Peter Olawale Oridupa Adopting eVoting is the best way to go.
Inec should pay a visit to Adekunle Ajasin university and see how eVoting is been use during SUG election.
God bless Nigeria.

Akinseso Vincent Ayodele ELECTRONIC VOTING, A WELCOME DEVELOPMENT FOR NIGERIA. WE LOOK FORWARD TO THIS. THE ONLY THING THAT IS CONSTANT IS CHANGE.
