Asa Day: Educationists Advise Parents On Cultural Preservation

Asa Day is a cultural celebration dedicated to promoting and preserving the traditions, language, and values of the yoruba land and the day is usually observed in schools and communities with activities such as wearing of traditional attires, speaking the indigenous language, performing cultural dances and many more.

A private school administrator, David Akintomiwa encouraged parents to teach their children the values of the Yoruba culture and to work with schools to promote and preserve cultural heritage.

A government school administrator, Oluwakemi Tokunbo who spoke in yoruba highlighted the significance of Asa day and how it contributes to the preservation of culture. 

In seperate interviews, educationists, oluwakemisola olowoyeye and adebukola ayo-ajayi shared their opinion on how culture can be preserved, emphasizing the importance of teaching children cultural language at home.

Students also shared their understanding of Asa Day celebration, stating that Asa Day is about culture, language, food, among others.

The celebration is aimed at encouraging pride in Yoruba heritage and to pass cultural knowledge on to younger generations.
