• President’s visit to coincide with Ondo State’s 50th anniversary celebrations
The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to pay a two-day working visit to Ondo State next year for the groundbreaking ceremony of the proposed Ondo Deep Sea Port. The commissioner described the forthcoming visit as a landmark event that will accelerate the state’s economic development and enhance its visibility on the national stage.
Ajanaku made the disclosure on Thursday in Akure while receiving members of the Ondo State Online Media Practitioners Association, led by their chairman, Mr. Joseph Adesuyan, during a courtesy visit to his office. He revealed that the President’s visit would coincide with the 50th anniversary celebration of the creation of Ondo State, scheduled for February 2026. According to him, both events will underscore the state’s growing importance as a hub for industrial and infrastructural advancement.
Highlighting some of the state’s major projects, Ajanaku disclosed that the modular refinery located in Ore, which has the capacity to produce 500,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily, is set to begin operations soon. He added that a new cement factory project is also taking shape in the same industrial corridor, creating what he described as a strong foundation for job creation and sustainable economic growth.
The commissioner praised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s pragmatic approach to governance, likening his development strategy to the reform-driven era of President Bola Tinubu during his tenure as governor of Lagos State in 1999. “Governor Aiyedatiwa is deep, practical, and meticulous in planning, much like President Tinubu in his early years as governor,” Ajanaku stated, emphasizing that the administration’s focus on industrialization and infrastructure is already yielding tangible results.
Speaking on the state’s tourism potential, Ajanaku reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming iconic destinations such as the Idanre Hills into internationally recognized attractions. He revealed that an elevator system would soon be installed at the site to enhance visitor accessibility and overall tourist experience. According to him, the initiative forms part of a broader tourism development plan aimed at boosting revenue and showcasing the state’s rich cultural heritage.
Ajanaku also pledged continued collaboration between the Ministry of Information and online media practitioners to promote transparency, accountability, and responsible journalism. In his response, the chairman of the Ondo State Online Media Practitioners Association, Joseph Adesuyan, commended the commissioner for his professionalism and openness to partnership. He assured that the association would work closely with the ministry to combat fake news and amplify the achievements of the Aiyedatiwa administration.
