President Muhammadu Buhari has approved debt forgiveness scheme for all functioning, licensed terrestrial Radio and Television stations in Nigeria.
Special adviser to president Buhari on digital and new media, Tolu Ogunlesi revealed this on his twitter handle today.
According to the tweet, the debt forgiveness is conditional.
"JUST IN: @NigeriaGov has approved a Debt Forgiveness scheme (license fees) for all functioning, licensed Terrestrial Radio and Television stations in Nigeria, effective July 10: 60% debt forgiveness on outstanding debt, on condition that balance of 40% be paid within 3 months."
He added that it is additional to the 2-months licence-fee waiver earlier granted to terrestrial broadcast stations, saying the weaiver will take effect from July 10, 2020.
"This is in addition to 2-month licence-fee waiver granted to all terrestrial broadcast stations in May 2020"
"Also, going fwd, 30% discount on license fees for all Open Terrestrial Radio & TV services, eff July 10, 2020 All part of @NigeriaGov’s Covid19 support for the industry."
"According to the Minister of Information and Culture, who announced this today: “The debt forgiveness and discount shall not apply to pay TV service operators in Nigeria.” he added.
