Ondo state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has unveiled the Ondo state contributory health Commission to drive the state’s social health insurance agenda of making qualitative health care affordable for every resident of the state.
The first baby of the commission was maternal and child health insurance launched in Dec. 2019 which in six months enrolled over 6000 mothers and children under five years as beneficiaries.
The success recorded is why the commission is scaling the intervention codenamed sunshine health insurance scheme, SUNSHIS to the informal sector with members of the artisans group as a point of contact.
Commissioner for health, Wahab Adegbenro advised the artisans to take advantage of the initiative which he noted will reduced out of pocket expenses on their health.
General manager of the commission, Abiodun Oyeneyin said the product has been designed to be affordable for the artisans while both private and public hospitals will be engaged as providers.
President of the state artisan group, Daisi Komolafe expressed the delight of the members to be part of the initiative and called for more engagements.
Beneficiaries of the maternal and child health insurance also gave testimonies of how it made them enjoy free health before and during delivery while their commission also donated Covid-19 palliatives to the association.
