The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has commenced distribution of sensitive materials to the 18 local government areas of Ondo State, ahead of Saturday’s governorship elections.
The distribution, which starts today at Central Bank of Nigeria premises in Akure, was under the watch of armed security operatives.
The materials are expected to get to the headquarters of the 18 local government areas of the state where party agents, observers, INEC officials and security agents are supposed to receive them.
The commission also moved items like buckets, mats, toiletries, bags of water, and mosquito nets for Adhoc officials to use during their assignments in the local government headquarters.
Speaking to Newsmen, Director, electoral operations INEC Headquarters, Abdurazaq Tukur-Yusuf who is in charge of the distribution said the sensitive materials that comprises ballot papers and result sheets were expected to reach the 18 local government headquarters today for onward distribution.
Earlier, the chairman of the electoral umpire, Mahmood Yakubu, expressed hope that his staff will rise to the occasion and give a level playing ground to all the political parties and candidates participating in the governorship poll.
